Jena, Germany, September 10, 2015 – Over a period of three years, Analytik Jena will be donating a total of EUR 12,000 to the University of Applied Sciences Jena for its project intended to encourage future international specialists to be part of the German labor market. This project has received an award from Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft.

Entitled “STAY – Studieren. Arbeiten. Leben in Thüringen” (STAY – Study. Work. Live in Thuringia), the project is headed by the University of Applied Sciences Jena and was developed in collaboration with the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena (FSU), the Bildungswerk der Thüringer Wirtschaft e. V., the Jena Federal Employment Agency, the Thuringia Welcome Center, which belongs to the State Development Corporation of Thuringia (LEG Thüringen), and the Jena Wirtschaft Business Development GmbH. The project is intended to help international students successfully complete their degrees and launch their careers in the region’s labor market.

“I’m delighted that University of Applied Sciences Jena received an award for its exceptional strategy and project goals of making Thuringia attractive for specialists and keeping good people over the long term. As a technology company, we feel it is our responsibility to support this important project. After all, it ultimately benefits us, too,” explained Klaus Berka, Chief Executive Officer of Analytik Jena AG.

The project will receive approximately EUR 110,000 over the next two years. Support began in July. In addition to Analytik Jena AG, support is also being provided by the other Thuringia universities of applied science – the Ilmenau University of Technology, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, the Erfurt University of Applied Sciences, the FH Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences, and the Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences – as well as the company Carl Zeiss AG, the photonics network OptoNet e.V., and IWT – Institut der Wirtschaft Thüringens GmbH.

“There’s currently an urgent need for highly trained specialists in Thuringia. One option is to encourage international students to remain part of the state’s labor market. This not only requires intensive support for students but also raising awareness of the issue in the state,” said Prof. Dr. Alexander Richter, Prorector of Studies, Teaching and Further Education at the University of Applied Sciences Jena.
